  1. What are the applications and uses of computer network?
  2. Compare Star topology and Ring topology.
  3. List any four function of data link layer.
  4. The message 100110 is to be transmitted by taking the CRC polynomial x^3 + x^2 + 1 to protect it from errors. What must be message to be send after appending the CRC to the message?
  5. A network on the internet has a subnet mask of 255.255.240.0. What is the maximum number of hosts it can handle?
  6. What is Link State Routing Protocol? Give an example of Link State Routing Protocol.
  7. What do you mean by Quality of service?
  8. What is the need of transport layer?
  9. How Process to Process delivery is different from node-to-node delivery?
  10. Discuss the features of TCP.

  1. State the major difference between distance vector routing and link state routing.

  1. Describe the format of IPv4 datagram with the help of a diagram, highlighting the significance of each field.

  2. Compare and contrast the leaky bucket and token bucket congestion control strategies.

    What is Jitter Control? Explain the major cause and the mechanisms to reduce jitters.
  3. How Congestion is controlled by transport layer? Explain.

    Explain working of SMTP protocol and its expansion. In addition, describe the Role of SMTP in Mail system.

  1. Write RSA algorithm? In RSA, given two prime numbers p=3 and q=11, find N and ∅. Choose e=7 and try to find d, such that e and d meet the criteria. also perform encryption for message, m=5.

    Differentiate between Symmetric versus Asymmetric cryptographic algorithms.
